Pension Reform Seminar for Executives in Stockholm

The current Swedish Pension System is universal, equitable, financed by taxes, contributions and has been implemented on the basis of the financial market. The demographic changes, the economic development, the changes on the labor market and labor force are some of the reasons for the improvement of the Swedish pension system.

Advanced Training Program on Pension Reform

During the five-day Work Shop in Stockholm the participants will have the opportunity together with the lecturers to examine and discuss the Pension Reform experience in Sweden, with a view to its application in other countries. Politicians and experts from key institutions who implemented the pension reform process in Sweden are lecturers on this advanced-level seminar. The programme is designed in cooperation with the Swedish Social Insurance Agency, the Premium Pension Authority, the Swedish Financial Supervisory Authority, the Swedish Tax Board and a leading Swedish life insurance company. The methodology is a combination of lectures, study visits, discussions and work group mixed with cultural and social activities. The main goal of the seminar is to present the multi-pillar pension scheme and provide an in-depth discussion of current pension system:

1st pillar: The Guarantee Pension, The Income Pension and The Premium Pension.

2nd pillar: The Occupational pension Schemes.

3rd pillar: The private saving, voluntary group insurance, individual life insurance, etc.

The seminar is divided in four topics:

1. Facts about Sweden, historical overview. (i) The demographic situation. (ii) Macroeconomic, political and legal conditions. (iii) The ramifications of Sweden’s membership in the EU.

2.The background for the Pension Reform. (i) The political and legal process. (ii) The results of the national working group. (iii) The Role of major stakeholders (government, parliament, trade unions, employers, mass media, etc). (iv) Notional Defined Benefit or Notional Defined Contribution?.

3. The implementation of the new system. (i) The Premium Pension Authority and the seventh AP fund in Sweden. (ii) Public awareness and information campaigns. (iii) The role of the financial market (Pension Funds, insurance companies and banks). (iv) Efficient public pension administration.

4. The international arena in Pension Reform. (i) The regional cooperation in EU. (ii) The challenges of the new system and (iii) Trends in pension administration.

Target group

Given the topics included in the programme, it is intended for Executives in a decision-making position at Ministries, Pension Authorities and pension reform teams, such as politicians, experts and consultants from insurance companies.

Objectives

After this seminar the participants can assess the strengths of their own pension system and compare the Swedish system to possible implementation options in their own country. The participants gain a network for further contact with colleagues from different countries and Swedish experts. Through the interactive part of the seminar you learn more about team work and achieving consensus.

Place and seminar fee

The seminar will be held in Stockholm on two occasions:

Spring 2009, 11-15 of April.

Autumn 2009, 26-30 of October.

The cost of the seminar that includes 7 days with hotel, lectures, lunch, materials and social activities is 2 100 Euros per participant (for a group of 10 participants). The seminar will be conducted in English. The air fare and visa is paid by the participant. BICON provides the documents required by the respective Swedish embassy for obtaining a Schengen visa.
The price shall be adjusted according to the market prices.

BICON had arranged seminars with simultaneous translation in Spanish and Russian and can arrange this seminar in French, Portuguese or other languages. Fees in such cases are available on request.
